Difference between packing and packaging
Difference between packing and packaging
Often it is considered that packing and packaging are the same process, however, these concepts have different definitions and functions. In this article, we describe the difference between them.
Packing (es el Empaque)
Packing refers to the material that individually includes the product, for the purpose of preserving it in good conditions until it reaches the final consumer. Companies frequently use it as a communication tool, allowing to make the brand known through packing printed with the company visual image designs.
The main functions are:
- Protect the product.
- Enable handling and transportation.
- Provide information about content, handling conditions, legal requirements, composition and ingredients.
Some examples of packing are: plastic wrappings, cardboard boxes, doypack, and shrinkable polyethylene; an example of this one are the packs of pure water bottles.
Packaging (es el Embalaje)
Its main function is to condition and store in an orderly manner several similar products, with the aim of preserving them, avoiding damage during tilts, shocks or humidity.
It allows easy handling of several boxes simultaneously, since they can be placed on a protected pallet with stretch film and then transported by forklift to different areas of warehouse or transport units that will carry them to different destinations.
Unlike the packing, this does not have printed advertising information. The information that must be clearly displayed is the general data that will allow the warehouse staff to easily locate it within the warehouse or the complete and clear data of the recipient.
Its main functions are:
- Secure the products during the transportation to their destination,
- Warehouse availability
- Inventory control availability
When you dispatch through Cropa Express, please make sure that your products have the correct packing and packaging to enable their transportation.
